29th May: Samira Kitman art exhibition supporting Afghan refugees

Update: Thanks very much to Samira Kitman and Firas Ali for organising an excellent exhibition of Samira’s artworks at Ham Youth Centre on Sunday 29 May. The event was very well attended, as you can see from the images below.

If you attended our Spring Party in March, you might have had the pleasure of meeting Samira Kitman, an award-winning artist and entrepreneur from Afghanistan.

An alumna of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, Samira Kitman will be exhibiting some of her work on Sunday 29 May at the same location that hosted our party, Ham Youth Centre.

Voted Afghan businesswoman of the year, Samira has had her art displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Smithsonian in Washington.

Samira also established Maftah-e Hunar, a foundation which has so far trained 80 young women from deprived backgrounds to become artists and make a living from their work.

Tickets include entry and a glass of wine or soft drink, and 50% of the proceeds from selling art pieces will be allocated to the support of other Afghan artists and artisans and to keep the arts alive in Afghanistan.
